Black Evening
It's a cooler evening
A little New England
Summer breeze
Sends chills down my spine
Not sure what it is
Maybe it's because
I've been watching too many
Witchcraft stories on tv
Drinking a little red wine
Warms my heart a bit
It might be a coincidence
I know, maybe it's me
But the wind is picking up
Darker things, like clouds
Invade my thoughts
I better walk faster
And get back to my block
I better not stop
I can feel the eyes of
A neighbor's big black dog
shining through
this sudden, unexpected fog
I hear no barking, just its heavy
Breathing muting mine
Now, all I can think of
Is what I'm going
To say when my time
comes to face God
