Peace of Mind
Walking through a dense forest
made up of deep green firs, tall pines, sweet maples and bright white birches
I decide to follow a path along
a meandering creek, protected by boulders and moss covered rocks.
The creek crystal clear water vehemently leads me to an unexpected cove nestled among bluffs and cliffs of discrete height
From this elevated vantage point I witness
a bunch of little islands rendered alive only by intermittent wind blasts. Guarded by the vigilant eyes of talented fishing ospreys and opportunistic gulls, the islands are strategically scattered around. They are a welcome sight
To the returning vessels looking to safely harbor away from the oftentime treacherous bold ocean waters
When all goes quiet and all the trawls are cleared of their precious contents, the anchored boats gently sway, rhythmically along with the sudden changing tides and the fairway buoys
Serenaded by the cooing loons
I wet my tired and aching feet while sitting on a lobsterman empty crate
That's when I find peace of mind my most sought after state
