The Beast
I woke up in a forest
of whispering trees
Among them a river,
A stream and a brook
All leading me to
The Northern Sea
I found a boulder
Strangled by seaweed
I sat on it watching
A mighty creature
emerging solemnly
She seemed unaware
Of my presence
Unafraid of what was
Below and above
The first sounds
To be heard were
from the blow hole
And then from her
humongous tail
hitting the ocean top
creating big waves
The blue turned red
Followed by a shriek
too human to belong
to a beast of that size
and terrifying features
I looked at the beast
Straight in her eyes
witnessing her demise
She sunk and disappeared
Ten thousands fathoms
Into the reclaiming abyss
I cleansed my eyes
Wanting to tell all
What they had missed
But my feet were too cold
And the back of my neck
wet from my sweat
Made me feel like a wreck
That's when I realized
I hadn't slept all night
Because a small mouse
Had given me a fright
