The Dinner

At a riverside restaurant
The owner of the biz
With his assistant
Pretending to be his wife
Are sitting at the table
Studying the gilded menu
Listing a variety of wild caught
Marine life
The silverware shining
Captures the people
waiting in line
Elegant linens and cloths
Taller glasses holding
chilled white wine
Chosen by price
Strange foreign names
Like white on rice
Meaningless and pretentious like
when adults play games
The vendor at their side
smiles paying extra attention
Waiting eagerly for them
To join in the conversation
It's easier to get things going
To establish commonalities
Even if there are no
Real bonds or ties
The appetizers, the cocktails
It's not always pearls
That hide inside the shells
Wisdom is harder to find
If you are not willing
To listen and open your mind
Served next is the main course
With no care and no remorse
I can't stand it any longer
I say openly what my eyes
Have seen plenty of times
Just the uncomfortable truth
Against their lies
