The Five Year Mark
It's the 5 year mark
I still wave at people
That I don't even know
Who the fuck they are
It's been 5 years that
I have been carrying
a gun and a badge
In a world that has changed
From progressive and
Understanding to
Backward and full of hate
It's been 5 years
That I've been with bodies
With no soul and no face
Making love to too many
That have disappeared
without a trace
It's been 5 years
That I have met people
Sharing secrets and stories
They were too tired to hide
It's been 5 years
That I've always tried
to understand, smiling,
crying, listening
While never taking sides
It's been 5 years
And it seems so long ago
That I came on this hill
Watching people
Young and old
sharing their stories
some endearing
Some better left untold
It's been 5 years
And I'm lucky to still
Remember you all
No matter if I am standing
In the extreme heat
Or the freezing cold
20 seasons have come
and have gone
And I know that
An hello, no matter what,
never gets old
